Home Works

Home Works of America, Inc. is a nondenominational organization open to all teens and adults interested in serving others and improving the quality of life for South Carolinians in need.  For nearly a decade, this valuable program has brought together teens and adults to renovate homes and empower vulnerable communities.  Home Works is based in Columbia, South Carolina, and you may contact the organization at www.homeworksofamerica.org.

Home Works' activities focus on providing home repairs to homeowners in need, assisting youth in their development, and empowering communities to meet the needs of its members.  Homes are repaired using donations of supplies and a volunteer workforce.  The volunteers are usually hosted by churches and other community groups that coordinate housing and utilize other volunteers to prepare meals.

Over the past two years, Ellis Lawhorne--in partnership with the Central Carolina Community Foundation--has pledged its time and funds to help Home Works fulfill its mission.  In addition to the financial contribution that Ellis Lawhorne has made to Home Works, its attorneys and staff regularly volunteer as workers by cooking meals for the volunteers, screening work sites, purchasing materials, and working on homes.
