Ellis Lawhorne believes it can better serve the Columbia, South
Carolina community and its clients by affiliating with selected
professional organizations-- either through a firm-wide affiliation or
individual lawyer memberships. Read below to learn how we are

Law Firm Alliance
The firm is a proud member of the Law Firm Alliance, an affiliation
of law firms created to provide a vehicle for clients to obtain
competent and responsive legal services by providing a network of
member firms for referral of legal matters. The Alliance is
currently comprised of 40 firms throughout the United States, plus
firms in Canada, Great Britain, Germany, The Netherlands and Italy.
Each law firm member is a separate entity that performs its own work
independently for its clients and is solely responsible for the quality

American College of Trust & Estate Counsel
Since 2001, Ellis Lawhorne has had an affiliation with the American
College of Trust & Estate Counsel (ACTEC). ACTEC is an association
of approximately 2,700 experienced Trusts and Estates attorneys
throughout the United States who are dedicated to improving this field
of practice. Attorneys are elected as members of ACTEC based upon their
professional reputations and abilities in the field of trusts and
estates
and on the basis of having made substantial contributions to the field
through lecturing, writing, and bar activities. Through this
affiliation, Ellis Lawhorne is able to bring perspectives on the latest
approaches and solutions to trusts and estates matters to its clients.

International Association of Defense Counsel
The International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC) is the
oldest and most prestigious international organization of attorneys
representing corporations, both inside and outside counsel, and
insurance executives in the world. IADC membership is through an
invitation only, peer review process. Members of the IADC are
chosen because of the leadership roles they accept in their countries,
communities and profession. They are leading practitioners
dedicated to the preservation and improvement of the civil justice

Defense Research Institute
The Defense Research Institute (DRI) is the national organization of
defense trial attorneys and Corporate Counsel dedicated to improving
defense law practitioners and improving the civil justice system.
DRI plays a major public role in legislative and judicial development.
It also offers numerous educational and informational resources to its

The South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys Association
The South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys Association (SCDTAA) is
made up of lawyers practicing law in the State of South Carolina.
The purpose of this organization is to bring together, by association,
communication and organization, lawyers in South Carolina who devote a
substantial amount of their time to litigating cases
and whose representation of such cases is primarily for the defense.
SCDTAA promotes improving the administration of justice and increasing
the quantity and quality of service and contribution that the legal

Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel
The Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel (FDCC) is an
invitation-only organization composed of leaders in the legal
community. Federation members have been judged by their peers to
achieve professional distinction, and are committed to promoting knowledge,
fellowship, and professionalism in the courts of justice. FDCC
members are experienced attorneys and others who are actively engaged
in the administration of defense in civil litigation throughout
the world. The FDCC represents the interests of those who need

John B. O’Neall American Inn of Court
John B. O'Neall American Inn of Court is an invitation only organization
promoting civility, ethics, and professionalism from plaintiffs' lawyers,
defense lawyers, and the judiciary. Its purpose is to look for new ways
to help lawyers and judges rise to higher levels of excellence,
