Jacob S. Barker
Associate

Jake S. Barker is a member of the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice Group and focuses his practice on banking, finance and real estate disputes. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of South Carolina in 2005, where he graduated cum laude. He earned his juris doctor from Washington and Lee University in 2008. While in law school, Barker was a George D. Shore Memorial Scholar and a member of the Moot Court Executive Board.

He has represented lenders in matters related to financial fraud, foreclosure defense, and advised clients in business opportunities, contracts, and other financial lending matters.

Some of Jake’s cases have included:

  • Representing lenders in various commercial foreclosure matters, including litigation, forbearance agreements, and work outs
  • Representation of financial institutions in contract disputes, including representation of warranty cases and banking operation cases involving UCC Articles 3 and 4.
  • Representation of financial institutions in matters regarding disposition of collateral under Article 9 of the UCC.
  • All types of conventional loan servicing matters, title insurance, and title insurance litigation, including closing protection letter disputes.

Jake is a member of the South Carolina Bar, the Richland Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He currently serves on the Law-Related Education Committee and the Practice and Procedure Committee for the South Carolina Bar. He has also served as a judge for Carol N. Ney National Mock Trial Tournament at Furman University.
