Austin M. Smith

Austin Smith is a member of the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice Group and focuses his practice on civil litigation.
Austin earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of South Carolina (USC). He earned his Juris Doctor from the USC School of Law, where he was a Board of Trustees Scholar. Prior to law school, Austin served on the Governor's staff as a policy advisor, providing counsel on environmental, agricultural and transportation issues. He also worked on special legislative initiatives including tort reform and tax reform. Austin’s experience in environmental policy and administrative law includes service on the Southern States Energy Board, SC Biomass Council, and SC/GA Governor's Savannah River Committee. Austin first worked with Ellis Lawhorne as a runner during his freshman year at USC. While in law school, he returned to Ellis Lawhorne to serve as a law clerk.
Austin is a member of the South Carolina Bar. He also serves as a volunteer with the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice.
