Associates

Professional responsibility and enhanced quality of life are the hallmarks of an Ellis Lawhorne associate. Associates are given responsibility from the first day they join the firm.

We support and emphasize direct client contact and teamwork among attorneys of all levels on cases. New associates are assigned to work directly with at least one shareholder, who is responsible for monitoring assignments and workload. Although assignments often come directly from the supervising attorney, all associates are encouraged to accept projects from other members of the firm.

We encourage our attorneys to learn more about firm governance by serving on committees. Through committee work, our associates are exposed to the way the firm is run on a daily basis. Ellis Lawhorne also encourages and promotes participation in activities outside of the firm, including bar, civic, and community organizations. We believe that professional and community involvement promotes development of a well-rounded person, attorney, and leader.

Evaluation. Ellis Lawhorne’s Associates Committee conducts a formal evaluation of each associate every six months. This evaluation process, together with a routine evaluation of work from supervising attorneys, is designed to insure each associate is developing the practice skills required to become an effective and successful attorney.
