Ellis Lawhorne shareholder to serve as state membership chair for the American Bar Association
COLUMBIA, S.C., October 16, 2008 - - Ellis, Lawhorne & Sims, P.A., is pleased to announce Lana H. Sims, Jr., a shareholder at the full-service law firm, has been selected to serve as the South Carolina membership chair for the American Bar Association.
With more than 400,000 members, the American Bar Association (ABA) is the largest and among the most influential voluntary professional associations in the world. The ABA provides law school accreditation, continuing legal education, as well as information and initiatives to improve the legal system for the public. As the ABA’s membership chair for South Carolina, Sims will be responsible for the development of a state program that will focus on member recruitment and retention.
Sims earned his undergraduate degree from Davidson College in 1979. In 1982, he earned his juris doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law. In addition to membership in the ABA, Sims is a member of the South Carolina Bar, Richland County Bar Association, the International Association of Defense Counsel, and the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys’ Association. Additionally, he was selected to the 2008 and 2009 editions of Best Lawyers in America®.
