Lay named president of South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys’ Association
COLUMBIA, S.C., December 15, 2008 - - Ellis, Lawhorne & Sims, P.A. shareholder, John T. Lay, Jr., has been selected as president of the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys' Association (SCDTAA). Lay will serve a one-year term, which began in November.
Established in 1968, SCDTAA promotes justice, professionalism, and integrity in the civil justice system by bringing together attorneys dedicated to the defense of civil actions.
Commenting on Lay’s selection as president of the state association, Ellis Lawhorne managing shareholder Bill McElveen said, “John T.’s appointment as president to South Carolina’s top trial attorney association is indicative of his skill in the court room, his leadership ability and his counsel to clients involved in complex litigation matters. He will be an invaluable asset to SCDTAA just as he is to Ellis Lawhorne.”
Lay is a member of the Ellis Lawhorne Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice Group. He earned his juris doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1991. He was recently named to two sections of the 2009 edition of Best Lawyers in America®, Commercial Litigation and Product Liability Litigation. Lay also was recognized as a 2008 South Carolina Super Lawyer. He is a member of the South Carolina Bar, Richland County Bar Association and the Federal Bar Association.
